I Come to Vent

Ahhhh. Monday morning. Sweet, sweet Monday morning. Usually I don't mind Monday mornings but today I am on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

On Friday, April 9th I took Nolan in for a check-up on an ear infection he had been dealing with since January. It was clear! Hooray! However, he had a fever and that lasted until Monday morning. His sleep and appetite was off. He threw up at our friends' home and also 2 mins from our house all over his car seat. So sad.

April 11th (a week ago today) I took Kyle to the park. Suddenly he cries that his ear hurts and somehow we come to the conclusion that he stuck a rock down his ear. Rush him to the doctor. I had already called that morning about his allergies, so I was well on my way to becoming, "That mom." The one who calls and visits the doctor too often. No rock, but a bad ear infection with a blister in his ear most likely caused by... allergies.

April 13th a different appointment for Kyle. April 16th I take Nolan in for an unplanned visit due to Pink Eye and whatever else was going on with him.

So grateful for my doctor. I really am going to miss her. She's the best! Oh, but I am DONE with that place. I hope I don't have to visit there again.

Sunday morning I wake up with flu-like symptoms. Tim and Kyle head off to church. I entertain the pink-eye free Nolan but feel bad for the bad cough he still had. Sleep when he sleeps. Felt like I had a newborn again.

Today. Boys are fighting non-stop. Kyle, go to time-out. Kyle, be nice. Nolan, don't bite. Kyle, you're not the boss. Yes he can touch that. No he won't hurt it. Over and over again.

I had felt like we had come so far with Kyle. He was doing so well behavioral wise. A good listener, "I be example," he'd say. Now I feel like we've fallen off the top of a ladder. Where do I draw the line between Nolan invading his personal space and toys and Kyle needing to share?

Did I mention our humidifier (that was bought just a couple moths ago) leaked water all over Kyle's carpet? All the fans going non-stop there. I'm hoping it dries soon. I'm starting to get worried.

Tim is starting to get in "finals mode." We'll miss him. He won't miss us.

It's beginning to get hot and humid. Trying not to complain though since my sweet mother will have to brave the heat and humidity in Argentina for 3 years.

Our house is for sale, but the market is slow. Our realtor said, "Things will slow down in June, but I don't know what that means since it's already been so slow." Trying to hold on to the faith I have left.

What do I pack a month out? How do I pack when I'm playing referee?
I look homeless. Don't feel it though, since I have a house still (that I am trying to get rid of).

Things could always be worse. Way worse. These are not big problems. Just a bit of my 10 am headache. I am so grateful for my friends and family. I have a long list of families I'm praying for right now who are going through such tough things. I look to them as examples and such amazing faith.

Have a happy Monday.

Rough! seriously, some days kids just make you crazy! Call one of the parents of Kyle's friends and see if he can have a play date today

You could probably start by packing all your winter stuff that you won't use anymore (until winter time). Then you have some stuff packed and you can feel good about that, but nothing that you could need still

I'm sorry to hear the boys have been sick. It's so hard when you aren't feeling well and the kids are sick and there is a move in the near future. This was last year for us, I totally feel for you. Just know you are not alone, we all have our rough days. I recently threatened Cory that I was done and was heading out to find a job. I just have to remind myself that this is the best job ever...right!?? If you need any help at all I am more than happy to come down.If you ever figure out the toy sharing balance between two kids please pass on the info. :)

Padded room :) That's what we need at our house. One for me & baby and one for the toddler.

Hope the rest of the week gets better! If all else falls, trips to Baskin & Robbins and lots of Nick Jr works at our house. :)

It's suppossed to slow down in June! WHAT? I don't think our house is even going to get on the market until after our board exam. I think we might be paying a mortgage on an empty house for a while... hold on to that faith, for you AND us!

When I saw the name of this post I thought, "it's got to be about mothering!" only because I am in the same boat! I hate Mondays because I swear the kids act way worse and I am at my wits end way sooner because I know I have to deal with it all alone for the whole week! So sorry sister but I totally feel your pain. I love to hear moms vent because it just shows they are human (although it's no fun for what they are going through). I am sending good mommying vibes your way!

As for ideas about sharing, one thing you could try is a "sharing box" to help transition toys you believe both boys can play with. Kyle plays with a toy for a certain amount of time (this can be a week, a day, or even a few minutes) and then he puts it into the sharing box where Nolan can then play with it. We have really implemented not taking toys away from others while they are playing with it and I think you can teach your baby to do it too, just with more physical barriers--since he certainly can't decide yet (like on top of a table or in a high basket). Also, have you done some direct teaching on how to parallel play or cooperative play yet with Kyle? This might save your sanity when you can't be around to "crowd control" their interactions on certain toys, ha ha :). Show him what it's like to creatively play with a baby (an example you could show him would be in Toy Story 3 when Molly ruins Andy's toys and instead of getting mad, Andy makes her into a character in his story).
Good luck sister!

Jen I appreciate your honesty! I think we too many times candy coat our perfect {haha} lives. You are real. You are a great mom. Hang in there!!

Hey Jen,

What a huge bummer! I'm slow get around these days, but glad to see that things are looking up. I'm not sure if you have read it, but a lot of my friends recommend "Don't Make me Count to 3" by Ginger Plowman. I read it and it is SO good. It has a lot of strategies we are going to use once Deb starts acting up. Just wanted to suggest it.

Hope your week keeps getting better!
